Idaho Family Physician of the Year 2022

IAFP Family Physician of the Year 2022:
Dr. Rebecca Katzman, Orofino, Idaho

Dr. Rebecca Katzman practices full-spectrum rural Family Medicine in the rural/frontier community of Orofino, Idaho at Clearwater Valley Health.  She provides obstetrical care with surgical obstetrics, Emergency Department care, and Hospital medicine coverage and care in the Patient-Centered Medical Home clinic. She also provides frontline care of Covid patients and those that are critically ill.

Despite being an extremely busy Family Physician Dr. Katzman has welcomed medical students and residents into her practice with open arms to give them a taste of how fulfilling rural medicine can be. She and her colleagues in Orofino have promoted a culture of excellence and teaching that has made Orofino a center of excellence for healthcare education and led to the establishment of a Targeted Rural Underserved Track (TRUST) site in Orofino through Idaho WWAMI/University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM).  As TRUST site director, Dr. Katzman’s leadership has been vital to the success of this endeavor and is she a respected and valued clinical faculty member for UWSOM.

Dr. Katzman will be honored as Family Physician of the Year for Idaho at the IAFP Annual Conference taking place May 6-7, 2022 in Sun Valley, Idaho. The award ceremony will take place at noon Mountain Time on May 7, 2022.

Family Physician Advocacy Award 2022:
Dr. Patrice Burgess, Boise, Idaho

Dr. Burgess serves as the Executive Medical Director for System Clinical Integration and Health Informatics for Saint Alphonsus. Throughout Dr. Burgess’ exceptional 25+ year career as a Family Physician in Idaho, she has always led by example, stepping up to help her patients, community and state in various roles.

Most recently, Dr. Burgess has demonstrated excellence in advocacy as Chair of Idaho’s COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Committee (CVAC). Under Dr. Burgess’ leadership, CVAC was instrumental in getting nursing home populations and frontline workers efficiently vaccinated early in 2021. Dr. Burgess’ advocacy for vaccines in Idaho helped to save the lives of the elderly across Idaho. Her advocacy also helped Family Physicians throughout our state be able to ensure access for themselves and their employees early in the vaccine process.

Dr. Burgess will be honored with the IAFP Advocacy Award at the IAFP Annual Conference taking place May 6-7. 2022 in Sun Valley, Idaho. The award ceremony will take place at noon Mountain Time on May 7, 2022.
